French painter of British origin, he was a genre and history painter, and he exhibited at the Salon from 1839 to 1867. He obtained a third-class medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1855.
Vice-president of the Artists' Association, and raised in July 1898 to the rank of Knight of the Legion of Honor with a foreign title.
He died a bachelor at his home on Avenue de Tourville, aged 80. Buried on February 1, 1900, at the Montparnasse cemetery.
